Bio: Who is Avispa Dorada?

My name is Avispa (now Avispa Dorada in CMLL), and I’m the first luchadora who was ever trained at Lucha Libre Volcánica by profesor José Luis Gómez. By extension, this makes me the first luchadora to come out of the Pacific Northwest of the USA.

I trained and performed lucha libre in Washington state from 2011through early 2018. I made my official public debut at Lucha de Sound 2 on March 9, 2013. In May 2018 I moved to Mexico City, Mexico to build upon my 6+ years of lucha libre training and pursue my dream of performing for CMLL. I currently train under profesores Virus & Último Guerrero. I made my official public debut with CMLL on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Arena México.

Titles & Accolades

Taco Libre Smackdown Champion (May 2014- May 2015)

Lucha Libre Volcánica Lightweight Champion (April 2017-August 2017)

Lucha Libre Volcánica Grand Champion (November 2017-September 2018)

CMLL XIII Concurso de Físico Culturismo. 3er Lugar, División Femenil (November 28, 2018)

CMLL XIV Concurso de Físico Culturismo. 3er Lugar, División Femenil (November 27, 2019)

When I’m not wrestling, I’m the head creator at Awkward Bug Studios. I make lucha libre & pro wrestling gear, comfy undies, and all other manner of stretchy stuff. When I moved to Mexico City, I also began an apprenticeship with mascarero Miguel Ruiz in his lucha libre mask & gear workshop.

On top of all that (since nobody needs free time ever) I’m a gym-junkie and ACSM certified personal trainer.

Considering how much of my time is occupied by lucha libre, I first decided back in 2013 to create this website as a blog. It has since grown and expanded into a fully-fledged website! Here you can find my thoughts on the sport and performance of lucha libre.

  1. Dear Avispa:

I very much enjoyed your story on your short documentary! I think more people and especially young ladies could benefit from it. Inspiring, fascinating and you’re so funny.

    Keep Going.

I look forward to hearing more of your adventures.

  2. Hi there! I went to see Lucha Mexico at the Grand Cinema this past Friday and had my picture taken with you, my niece, Black Hawk, and Green Thunder. I was the big chubby guy with the striped white shirt and my niece Reina was the one drawing on the marker board. I just wanted to say thank you to you guys for your insight into the Lucha Libre business. It was a lot of fun listening to you guys discuss the culture and background of Mexican wrestling. I learned a lot from that Q&A session. The movie was awesome as well. Thank you guys for making Friday night special for me and my niece. 🙂

  3. Hi there! I was looking up information on luchadora and was lead here. I hope this isn’t inappropriate but I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about lucha libre. I’m doing a story on female wrestlers and would like to include a luchadora but want to also get information correct.

    • If you haven’t perused my blog yet, take a look over my posts first– I’ve answered a lot of the FAQs here. And check out the Wikipedia page on lucha libre for basics of the sport. But if you have any other questions beyond what’s covered there, ask away! You can send questions to la.avispa.luchadora@gmail.com.

      • I didn’t notice a FAQ section but I’ll look through your blog more and get in touch if I do end up with any questions afterward. Thanks!

  4. Your passion for lucha libre is so intense! I’m glad that all of you at Lucha Libre Volcánica are spreading the sport and culture in the Pacific Northwest. Keep being Avispa, a good role model for many fans.
